Must-See Cineconcerts – More silent films with live music than ever
At the Budapest Classics Film Marathon programmes about the meeting of film and music are traditionally very popular. This year we can see motion pictures supported by symphonic orchestras, piano and accordion, and a special miniconcert will also take place of the songs of the Oscar-winner composer Miklós Rózsa.
This year we are screening more silent films with live music than ever. These screenings provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the audience, evoking the spirit of the heroic age of cinema. The special films will arrive to us from the treasures of archives all around the world. Along with the Portugal, French and American silent films, Michael Curtiz's Hungarian production, The Undesirable will be shown on open-air supported by a grand orchestra, as well as the director's rarely-screened costume film from his Vienna-period, Young Medardus, which established his international fame. The Pathé Baby amateur films made in Hungary between the World Wars are considered real specialities, and are on the programme along with an introduction about the 100-year-old Pathé Baby format, and live music at Toldi Cinema.
