Dr. Robert Armstrong and his wife Margaret arrive in the small Alpine town of Cortina D'Ampezzo, along with a handsome Austrian lieutenant, who even on the journey has started flirting with the woman. During walks in the village the lieutenant stalks the couple everywhere and from there on, when there are just the two of them, he becomes increasingly demanding in his attention. Sepp, the tourist guide, observes events with disapproval and intervenes to stop the night rendezvous pushed by the seducer. The following day, the two men leave to climb one of the peaks of the Dolomites... This is the first film directed by Erich von Stroheim, in which naturally he himself plays the role of the odious lady-killer.
